I just agreed to the new Russian ToS (they popped up when I logged in) because I can't just NOT sign into LJ, but what did I just agree to? I tried to read it all but *head spin*. Did I just sign away my life away or something? Or is all much the same as before? I do have a Dreamwidth account but I can't even imagine transferring everything over there (or firing up a place I'm not at all familiar with (is fandom even active over there?)). *sigh* it's all just too hard. I have history here. It's where my fandom home was/is. And it really is a journal and therefore it holds many amazing memories that I don't want to lose.

It appears I don't know how to be in fandom any more. It's discombobulating.

I really don't know what to make of this. I found out today (via a heads up from a flistie <3) that a person that I have been following (though not intently) is not only a fake but a serial LJ plagiarist and sock. It weirds be out because if this is true this person had created a very elaborate back story of his life. The person is

micamonroe and it seems that some of you are already aware of this person - and the allegations that he's stolen stories and art.

I read a story of his (maybe his?) quite a few years ago. It was interesting to me because he claimed it was based on his own life experience. And I believed him.

But it seems it's all false. Well, according to this post (and the many links providing evidence).

His death was announced in a post recently (there's no point me linking it as it's friends locked) and of course many left condolences. He's also claimed to have been abused and has even been in a coma.

I have no idea what's truth or not. It's pretty damn sad if it's all been fake because - holy crap! Why?!!? Just to gather comments and gain sympathy? How sad a person must you been to create such an elaborate "other" life. His stories get A LOT of comments. I'm not sure how I missed the news that he's not who he claims to be.

Anyway. I'm not losing sleep over it. It's just freaking weird.

For me...

I love the way fans share STUFF so we can all happy and come together as a community to celebrate a show we love. Even if we can't agree about certain story lines or ships or characters we can appreciate the work others do and come together to celebrate that.

I love that fans help fans when they are in need. I love that a site like SuperWiki exists and when it needed funds recently we raised DOUBLE the amount that was being asked in such a short time. I love that people will connect on the specific things they love in the show (be it Sam, Dean, Cas, bros, Team Free Will, porn, tentacles...) and share that love in that corner, while embracing other stuff as well.

I love the god damn PASSION we communicate with when discussing the show. I love how these characters are so REAL that we defend them as they would be personally hurt if they heard you SAYING THAT about them.

I love that people can write fix it fics when canon isn't doing what you want and can DRAW and create the most amazing works to make you fantasise, imagine, drool, die, admire and just revel in everything you love about the show.

I love that fandoms are created within the fandom (yes I'm talking about

rlbivob !).

I love that my flist are the most AMAZING group of people who are talented and warm and take the time to engage with me.

I love how fandom makes me feel part of something that feels important - something that's passionate and relevant. I love how it heals me when I'm feeling down, keeps me company when I'm feeling lonely and makes me laugh when I need picking up.

I love that it's a family and that our Show represents all the things that fandom is about is about (for me).

I can't quite believe I said yes to joining a GISHWHES team! I have no idea what I'm in for or what it's all about, but I believe it's meant to be fun (and a little crazy), so...why not?!

I probably should pick a vid (hee... I do have some I'm proud of!) but I'm going to go with something that I am really proud to be part of.

Just over three years ago I proposed the idea of having a community where hurt!Sam and hurt!Jared fics could be archived. The response and support was amazing. From that

spn_littlebro was born. A community that recs and archives fan works that feature hurt!Sam or hurt!Jared ('cause some of us a suckers for that stuff! *g*).

This community only exists because of all the people involved in getting it there. From the initial brainstorming sessions to the wonderful mods who have contributed to it over the years.

There are now over 1000 fics listed on the site. It has 500 members and is watched by over 600 people. We have a Delicious account, ff.net community and tumblr. There's also a monthly newsletter reccing all the awesome stuff fans make. So much of this is due to

harrigan and

el1ie who have been instrumental in setting it up and continue to help it all run so smoothly. We've had many wonderful mods over the years helping out. Currently

ayane42,

jessm78 and

reggie11 are helping search out all the awesome fan works to share with members and help keep it ticking over.

So yeah. Something that started as a way of having a place to go so I could find all the fics I wanted to read has ended up being a place that I consider an online home. A place I love and a place I love being part of. It's also something I will look back on and know that I will be proud that it exists. *wipes a tear* (haha! I think I got emotional there for a moment...must be the wine..!)

My good friend

starrylizard has found her way back into the SPN fandom! YES! She's been watching the show and she's re-hooked! (yay!)

Thing is, she's checking out LJ and has noticed it's a bit like a ghost town (and her flist from a few years ago aren't posting anything SPN anymore). I've assured her that there's still active fans and communities about - you just gotta find them.

Aaaanway. She's looking to get hooked up. She wants to get involved in the LJ SPN fandom again and she is looking for new people to hang out with. She's super friendly, very talented and always so generous. If you have a chance pop over and say hi. She'd love it! And I think the more SPN fans on LJ the better! :D

The men are beautiful, the women are awesome, the production values are high and there's a heap of swash and buckle. Oh and the bromance is OFF THE SCALE! Ok, so it's a little silly and I'm not sure how historically correct it is but boy it's entertaining. :)

Hey lovely peoples. I feel like I'm falling behind and looking at stuff (I see there's a ton of art and fic around) but I am seriously short of time at the moment. My play is in its second week (going really well! We've had some great feedback) and I'm back at work (arghhhhh Year 3! Such a steep (re-learning) curve from teaching Year 7.

The conversation on the last episode has been epic! I'm making my way through all the awesome comments. Once again I thank everyone for being so awesome and respectful of other fans thoughts. It was a pretty divisive episode - I suppose the thing I'm hoping is that at least some people are beginning to see that there are two sides here. Once both sides can be seen it makes things a little easier to accept (maybe?). And even after reading all the stuff I am still feeling positive and excited for this direction. I know in my heart of hearts this isn't the end of their remarkable and amazing love for each other (can't rehash it all here - but it's expressed in much of the replies in the reaction post).

Hey lovely peoples. Hope you are enjoying the lead up to Christmas. Surprisingly, I actually am. Usually I am rather fraught this time of year but I feel pretty darn organised and content. Being on holiday certainly helps with the overall feeling of sheer happiness (and reading the lovely comments on my last vid. I feel no shame in saying they mean a lot to me <3. The love meme thread was wonderful also. THANK YOU for all your lovely comments. The last few weeks of school were rough, so they really helped me through. Seriously. <33).

I've seen a couple of memes floating around - one was the December ask-a-question meme and there's a vidding one which has been interesting also.

I didn't have time to do either of these but I have a little bit of time up my sleeve now so if you wanted to ask a question feel free!. It doesn't have to be vidding related (though if it is I'll probably include it in my end of year round up *g*). I have a few days off before I head to a place called Seabird for some R&R with my hubby and a group of friends - so I'll be looking for something to do (I'm taking some time off making stuff until the new year. I think. I mean, if I can stop myself…)

So. Ask away! It can be anything - fandom related, vidding or RL. Then I'll post the answers (if there's any questions of course…;D) over the next few days.

Just curious (even though posting it on LJ will skew any sort of "real" results. Though I am hoping to entice some tumblrites to answer also).

I'm thinking about this because I have noticed a lot of LJians migrating to tumblr and it makes me wonder if that's because it offers a more rewarding fandom experience than LJ. For me, it's LJ. I enjoy tumblr but I can (and did!) go days without visiting it, but I can't go a day without checking into LJ.

I consider "rewarding" to mean where you get the most pleasure. Perhaps your "go to" fandom place. The one that is most satisfying as a fandom hangout. The one you feel most at home or perhaps the place you feel you belong.

This may not be a "smart move".

Those graphs are amazing! I particularly love the way they provide a great comparison between seasons. Look how much Dean drank in S7! And how many times he said "Sammy" in S2! LOVE IT!

Staying Low by the amazing

I saw a heap of other awesome vids which I will share if I can get my act together. I am playing catch up with a number of things at the moment. /o\

I watched Amour last night. One of the most amazing and affecting films I think I have ever seen. No wonder it won the Palme d'Or and the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. It's absolutely beautiful - beautifully directed and acted. It's also incredibly heartbreaking and painful. The title is perfect for the subject matter. I couldn't stop hugging my husband after watching this. I recommend it to anyone who likes stories that explore the human condition.

Watched eps of Arrow (I'm getting all the Oliver and Tommy feels now...<33), Haven (an ep that reminded me of Mystery Spot (Groundhog Day). It was wonderfully constructed and I was having all the Nathan, Duke and Audrey feels) and the latest ep of Spartacus (just when I thought it couldn't get any more brutal...*guh*. It was hard to watch, but still amazing).

A Multifandom LiveJournal Friending Meme
Tumblr is great, but my fandom heart is in LJ.

I'm pimping this not because I'm taking part but because I WANT LJ TO LIVE!

I wrote an essay about fan sites and how fans take what they're given and make them work. I haven't posted it because it's a jumbled of thoughts and it's lacking research, but I'm intrigued by the way a platform like Tumblr has been - um- bent to accommodate the way fans want to post. And how Live Journal seems to be trying to accommodate the ways (some) fans like to post with their recent updates. Particularly things like allowing sticky posts to comms and incorporating features that seem popular on other social media sites.

I think I might be one of the rare few who actually like the LJ updates. I haven't used their new friends page (I like viewing it in my own format) but I do like the profile and posting page.

I also pondered if a fan specific platform may ever be created. A place that featured everything we need so we could all hang out in one place. A place that's easy to post (like Tumblr) but allows connectivity (like LJ). Ridiculous thinking really because not only do we all want something different but it wouldn't be cost effective for the developers I imagine.

Aaannnway. The only way LJ will stay alive and kicking is if we keep using it! It's heartening to see over 3000 comments to the above meme. :))
