Hey, I don't look at typos unless someone specifically asks me to proof read something! I'm a dreadful speller....

Anyway, where were we?

Ah yes, the can of worms that is the messed up Amelia. Mostly I think they threw too much information out in too little time - don't get me wrong I don't think I could have stuck one more second of that soap opera they had going, but in all honestly there wasn't THAT much time to know first she was a 'feisty'- no nonsense career caring veterinary surgeon giving a stranger a piece of her mind. Then she was prickly and drank too much and giving a stanger another piece of her mind. Then it was suddenly all heaven in the park with the dog and cake. But then it was like - wait - you can't hate her - look how 'damaged' she is...her husband ran off to save the country and got killed and - and - and - but by then I honestly didn't care, first impressions stick. Far too much of a Mary Sue for me, which is why I think I rail at her so much.

You're right, there are women of all types in our world, why they chose this version for Amelia I don't honestly know, we know they can and have written some interesting female characters and they've also written Becky and like you I don't know how to discuss this without it getting messy and out of control.

One thing I would really like to know - that scene in the park where Sam can't find Amelia - (ok, how a woman with a huge picnic basket can go missing is a bit strange, but that's not the point). Sam panics, it's the only time I think we do see that emotion, to me, that wasn't about Amelia at all, that was all about his grief at over he's lost Dean - he CAN'T lose anyone else, not even the dog. Wasn't that Jensen's episode? The first one filmed? Was that written that way? "This scene shows Sam nearly having a heart attack because his girlfriend goes missing in the park" Hmmm... I'll never know, because neither of them would ever split, but I do wonder the reason behind Sam's very, very strong reaction there and what both of them expected Sam's year would turn out to be.

I do agree with you on the parallels they've tried to draw, between Sam losing Dean, Amelia losing Don, Don coming back, Dean coming back, Sam not looking for Dean, Dean not looking for Cas. Sam not trusting Benny, because Dean trusts Benny or some other shit I can't think about right now. I think they wanted those parallels more than they wanted to work out how those details would fundamentally change things.

But, let's look at one more parallel and that's between Amelia - Sam's new friend - and Benny - Dean's new friend. Now I'm not exactly sure if I'm right here, because you know I don't follow all the actor gossip or spoilers and such, but I seem to remember a slew of interviews with Benny's actor. All those promo pics were around, all the bloggers and journalists and columns were full of Benny interviews. I haven't seen ONE with Amelia - now I'll stand corrected if they are out there and I've missed them, but I have to ask myself why. Is she just not interested in pushing her character on our show? Are they saving the interviews for when she comes back? Are there too many spoilers about her return to risk interviews?

Or are the media pundits, the blogger, the journalists, the columns just not interested in doing interviews with her? So ask yourself who exactly is leading the misogyny in this fandom?
