He said it at the recent VanCon. My friend [livejournal.com profile] redteekal was there and let me know and I also had a comment on the separation meta saying the same thing. Basically he said there had been an misunderstanding about that and Sam doesn't give up on Dean. (which, I really can't imagine him doing. I can only expect that if he has exhausted EVERY avenue then he might give in to getting on with his life - the way Dean did during Sam's absence).

Now...

I admit that under the surface I am feeling much the same as you. I'm not particularly happy that it's another whole year (why do they do that when 4 months is plenty long enough to be separated!!?) I'm not tooooo worried about Sam seeming lack of pining because when S6 opened Dean was looking very content also. Ok...he was pining a little but he had got on with his life. I'd rather it not be like that (because I am convinced that they CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT EACH OTHER!), but if they are going to be doing a kind of mirror to Dean's year alone then I suppose I can see that.

Also, Dean looks remarkably well for someone who might have just gotten out of Purgatory. Can't wait for their backstories.

I'm not entirely convinced we are getting the whole picture. There's something brewing and I'm thinking that what we see might not be exactly what we expect (not so much the promo, but in terms of the boys and what's been going on).

So yeah. I've decided that it's easier and more fun to be excited at this point. When the show actually starts and we start to get the whole picture, then there might be gnashing of teething and ranting and raving.
